Driving digital transformation in Norwegian healthcare: Tomas Ed, our Norway Country Manager
Tomas is the captain of the Norwegian ship at the Visiba fleet. He is a result-driven individual, an energetic and relentless relationship builder, who thrives on witnessing Norwegian healthcare providers reap all the possible benefits of digital transformation.
What do you do at Visiba?
I am Country Manager in Norway; I am responsible for creating growth and developing Visiba in the Norwegian market. This means virtually the entire spectrum of market contacts, suppliers, customers, and other players that can influence digital health in Norway
What are the most important and challenging aspects of your role?
Getting a grip on the market and keeping track of the movements and which direction it is going towards. As a sales representative it is important to keep track of which players are moving in the market. As we are a small team here in Norway, there are many parts to be covered in order to get the full overview. The political aspect, the supplier market, the technological conditions, the customers’ reasoning.
Visiba has grown a lot recently; how has that effected your job situation?
In Sweden, many of our customers scaled up quickly, whereas in Norway, there have been a lot of new inquiries from new potential customers. Most people wanted short-term, good-enough solutions and that is not really what we aim to deliver. At the same time, it created an incredible pressure around digital transformation and online consultations. In the long run, it is very good for us.
How do you experience the market in Norway and Sweden?
Here in Norway, we are a few years behind when it comes to digital transformation. Norway is now looking at online consultations, which Sweden has already done 3-4 years ago. As they have a different compensation system and only public providers are included, the public sector does not have the same urgency to face the pressure that have been placed in Sweden by private players. This is exactly what happened in Sweden; there was financial pressure from private players, which mobilised public healthcare to move towards digitalisation – private players here in Norway are completely out of the compensation model and do not challenge the public sector. Another difference is the structure: Sweden works with regions that take care of the entire line of care, from primary to secondary care. In Norway, healthcare services are divided: the government takes care of secondary care and municipalities manage primary care, with an additional layer of challenge, since they hire external private suppliers for primary care centres. It is quite the task for a digital platform to provide a coherent delivery.
What makes Visiba such a good place to work?
Having the freedom to design my day. I have control over my workday and I can create and manage the tasks that are necessary to get things done.
What is your focus right now?
I am focusing on developing strong Use Cases in different segments. We will focus a lot on the municipality market this autumn. We are putting lots of effort into marketing and display how good of a digital solution healthcare providers can build for all residents and how the Visiba Care platform facilitates that. Another focus is to introduce and create the foundation for a great Red Robin launch here in Norway.
What does Tomas do outside of work?
Right now, there is a lot of golfing – I am an avid golfer! I have always been involved with sports as a coach. I just quit and I have a huge amount of time for golf that I never had before. My sons play ice hockey and I also follow them a lot.
